Aberystwyth Pier Murmuration
20/11/11Aberystwyth Pier Murmuration
It's that time of year again. Not the "cold, short-day but Christams is coming" time of year but the "crisp, clear air, golden leaves and wonderful light" time of year. Oh, and of course, the starlings are back at the Pier. This evening Sarah and I watched the murmuration build up; gradually at first and then really impressive numbers of starlings whirling around overhead and over the Old College and Pier. Sometimes they form a big flock and then simply head for the best roost spots under the pier and other times (like tonight) they put on a bit of a show for the good folk of West Wales. The shapes are random and the liquid motion is mesmerising. Tonight we had a spectacular light show in the background too. All in all a wonderful end to the day and a hint of what is to come when they arrive in really big numbers!
