Gannet in flight

Gannet, near Grassholm

Our traditional trip to Pembrokeshire to visit Skomer (to see the puffin) and also (weather permitting) take a boat trip around Grassholm (the gannetry - amazing you simply have to be there to understand the full experience) and see dolphin on the trip too.
We were not disappointed - plenty of dolphin around (even a couple of Risso's dolphin - and a fabulous trip around the gannetry. The sight of all the birds (thousands of gannets and guillemots), the noise as they call to each other and of course, the delicate aroma of the island too. A bit overcast (which is not a bad thing when trying to photograph white things with black bits) this was taken from the boat ISO 200, 1/1000 at f8 and 80mm on my brand, spanking new canon 70-200mm f2.8 lens. I have done this trip before but it was Sarah's first outing and she was rewarded with a dolphin coming up to breathe right next to her - a wonderful feeling of breathe on her face.
