One good tern...

Myself and Sarah have just returned from a fabulous two weeks in the New Forest. Weather fantastic so great walking and nature watching. We are keen naturalists and we saw two keen naturists on a local beach one evening too. Don't get the two terms confused...

Anyway, we visited Blashford Lakes and spent a few hours watching this young common tern being fed. Further out in the lake are rafts for the terns to nest on. This one must have made an exit (planned or otherwise) and ended up in some scraggy branches in front of the hide. The adults returned with fish after fish to feed it until it finally started to refuse anymore. It flew away the following day.

We met a chap with great local knowledge who pointed us in the direction of a good site for dragonfly. I will post a series of images of one eating a bee when I get a moment.

We returned to the duchess and back to our campsite where I generously offered to cook for us whilst Sarah chilled out with a (staggeringly huge) G&T. I started a BBQ and in true outdoors fashion moved food between the grill and the ground until it was fully cooked while consuming beer. Its a tricky job but someone has to do it.

Adder, sika deer and grass snake on Facebook page if you want to take a look.
