The pools have been a tremendous success in attracting dragonflies and damselflies. Emperor, broad-bodied chaser, four-spot chaser, common darter and black darter are all regular dragonfly visitors in the summer months. Common blue, large red, blue-tailed and emerald damselflies are common and Demoiselle's are occasionally seen. The ponds were established in 2018 and the diversity of insect life is expected to increase with time. In the ponds are great diving beetles, water boatman and pond skaters. Bees, wasps, butterflies and spiders are easily spotted in warmer months around the ponds and the fields. For more examples of local insect life see the Tangarreg Pools Insects gallery.
